We begin in Australia.
There local reporter saying they are faint.
Crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin has died.
The Australian environmentalist was known around the world
for his fearlessness in handling dangerous animals.
We are learning from the local media reports,
that the sting ray barb pears his chest, for the diving expedition
off Australian's northeast coast.
Premedics were unable to revive him.
When was there filming under water documentary.
He was one of the best known animal lovers and popularized the term, CRIKEY.
He was 44 years old.
For the more now, joined on the phone by Cathie Schnitzerling
in Queensland, Australia she is the News Director for Channel 10 Australia,
and in the Queensland office.
Cathie, thank you very much for being in with us.
As we learn more information about what exactly happened,
the events around in his death, what are you getting?
What kind of information are you getting?
Look, it's very sketchy at the moment with only just being able to really
concern that he has actually died.
But it is a very rare accident.(1:00)
Marine biologist he tells us
that it is extraordinary ray, that anybody would die from a sting ray barb
we believe that it has teeth to chest
and he is out die from a hot-thesia or from a reaction to the teething.
Now, of course we want to know full details because post mortem is
not going to be held until at least tomorrow.
But now at the moment, you could imagine that everyone, everyone in Australia
probably in world who know Steve Irwin, a crocodile hunter are in shocked.
At his Australia zoo, which is one of the premier attraction here in Australia.
He is a star for demonstrated there in tears.
The finesse securely called around the place.
Tourists are coming out, they can't believe what is happened because he really is described ambassador for Australia.
But he is so down to earth, so as Australia that everybody feels like
he is the boy next door.
So yeah, definitely great shock here in Australia at the news.
Cathie, Steve Irwin kill at claim to fame, if you will,(2:00)
someone who is able and willing wanting to handle very dangerous animals
or poisons reptiles.
He was known for that.
So he was out shooting this documentary one would want to assume
he was there that was very well prepared for the eventuality that
he may across some very poisonous creatures.
Indeed, that is exactly right.
He was stay on his own vessel on the low wild.
Which is on great valley of reap off port Douglas,
north of Cairns, which is quite long way from where we are, here in Bristling.
It's couples of thousands miles away.
What if had been very well prepared, that boat CROC one has its on heli-port,
I believe the rescue helicopter flew from Cairns 2 days in order to pick him up,
but as you said earlier, he the flowing to Cairns, but he is unable to be revived.
But he would have been very well prepared, and he always has a team of other
experts who travel with him as you to appreciate.
And as you are mentioning earlier, that the country is in quite shock(3:00)
quite shock as he is someone who really brought the whole wild life industry
if you will to fame in the sense that he was the one that made it very
he became famous first in United States and then in Australia.
What does it means to Australians?
Well, he is very as you said as I said earlier,
he is a great ambassador for Australia.
But he is also a great environmentalist.
He has done so much work in this country towards saving endangered species
he buys a tracks of bushland out in the outback, in order to preserve
species that are actually there.
Now, I am very certain that in this early stage that Terri, one his wife,
she is probably, she is a unique character her self.
And she would want to continue the work that he is done, that Australia zoo
was started actually by his parents 10 years ago,
and they have got on build that up.
From something that sort of quite small(4:00)
to being this award winning tourist attraction.
It has been very instrumental in a bleeding program for endangered species
other than Australian ones.
He is really is definitely going to be a loss.
But I will be very surprised if visitorial walked away from that.
Alright, Cathie Schnitzerling in Bristling which is Queensland, Australia
Thank you so much for that.
That was a pleasure
